2010: The Odyssey of Human Capital Management Solutions
Welcome to my first message of the new decade. 2010 stands out as a momentous milestone along the endless road toward the future. It’s a year that many people used to refer to when pondering “what things would be like” in what promised – years ago – to be an illustrious time of advancements in human understanding. I feel fortunate to be associated with the human capital management industry at the dawn of this decade because it is one field that has lived up to the futuristic promise of what 2010 would be when it finally arrived. Now, we’re not Aerospace industry professionals developing probes to visit other worlds. Nor are we pharmaceutical researchers developing cures to the scourge of diseases and saving countless lives worldwide. Yet, we are at the nexus of all these (and other) truly breathtaking advancements - enabling these futuristic endeavors by delivering top suppliers of talent and managing the process in ways that free up significant capital to be used by organizations such as these in the pursuit of their goals.
Our industry does not exist entirely at the fringes of the futuristic. We are, as an industry, very much in the center of futuristic innovation in our own right. Services supply chain management has enjoyed a meteoric rise since its inception in the mid 1990s. Blasting beyond the boundaries of innovation and undergoing lightening quick advancement, growth and maturation; the modern MSP continues to push forward towards ever more comprehensive human capital solutions that have grown indispensible to the world’s leading organizations. The changes brought by this rapid growth and maturation have in many instances outpaced the grasp and adoption of the industries they serve. The mix of cutting edge technologies, process enhancement strategies, global sourcing practices, risk mitigation methodologies, diversity goals and many other evolving challenges is impacting the ways best-in-class solutions are architected and implemented. What was cutting edge 18 months ago is often already supplanted by the next new advancement. Whether it is the addition of sophisticated business intelligence analytics to a solution or emerging strategies for workforce globalization, the pace of advancement has become dizzying. Procurement and HR professionals busily working on optimizing their current programs are finding it extremely difficult to find significant time to spend focusing on the evolution of the next generation of solutions. Yet as we all know, it pays to be ahead of the curve in today’s tough, competitive business environment.
To help busy Procurement and HR executives take full advantage of the most current solutions options available, we have released our first new white paper of the new year entitled, “Selecting the Right MSP to Support Human Capital Procurement”. It charts the history and evolution of the modern human capital management program showing where we have been, where we are currently and where we’re headed as an industry. With the insight gained from this paper, readers should be able to engage in more informed planning with regard to their overall human capital management strategies.
